Booted Roots

I am from a small, southern town where not too long-ago bootlegging was at its’ peak during prohibition. Many types of alcohols were smuggled back then, but namely backwoods moonshine. The history and environment of bootlegging is what inspired my very own brand of moonshine, Booted Roots. ‘Classy vs. Trashy’ was, and is, a thin line to walk for women drinking which is why I made that motif the main visual of my labels. I used fancy lady figures and juxtaposed them with risqué character names that also doubled as flavor profiles for the moonshine. Themes of femininity such as lace, pearls, and florals bring the “class” back into the design. The outer packaging, of course, had to stick with the theme and be a crate for smuggling. Even the bottles’ shape gave the impression of a moonshine jug but were small enough to pass as a discrete flask.
